The Marine Corps League is a veterans organization founded to perpetuate the traditions and spirit of all Marines who proudly wear or who have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the Corps.
There are Marine Corps League Detachments all across the world. Regular meetings are conducted under a unified ritual and in an atmosphere of camaraderie and Espirit de Corps expected to be found among Marines.
The only regular membership qualification is honorable service in excess of 90 days and earned the Marine Corps device or Warfare Device worn on the Service Ribbon authorized for FMF Corpsman or U.S. Nay Chaplains who have served with Marine Corps Units.
A common quality among the membership is that embodied by our motto "Semper Fidelis" - "Always Faithful". We are "always faithful" to our Country, our Corps and our fellow Marines, in service and out.
HISTORY
Being a Marine is what it's all about. John A. LeJeune, who founded the Marine Corps League in 1923, put this above all else. Although he was Commandant of the Marine Corps, a decorated hero of the First World War and the former Commanding General of the victorious Second Army Division, he said his first claim to fame was, "I am a Marine!"
LOCAL DETACHMENTS
League members share a special bond of comradeship unique to those currently serving and to those who have worn the Marine Emblem. We look after each other and assist the families, widows and orphans of all Marines. We especially observe national holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day and those days of special meaning to Marines - like "our birthday".
Many of our Detachments volunteer their services in our Veterans Medical Centers and local Veterans Homes as well as Nursing Homes that house many of our veterans. We assist our young people to stay healthy through the Youth Physical Fitness program and the Young Marine program in our communities.
